About Us
Challenge Farm is located near Kitale town, an agricultural, market town in the northern Rift Valley, Kenya.
Kitale has one of the highest populations of “street kids”. There are children on every corner struggling to
survive. Some as young as age 6 search trash bins and beg just to be able to get something to eat.
HOPE is not a word familiar to these children.

Our Mission is to successfully rehabilitate children who have been abused and mistreated by providing a safe, healing environment with loving mentors, teachers, and counselors, teaching them essential skills and behaviors needed to create better futures for themselves, their families, and their communities.

After operating as a drop-in center since 1999, the “Farm” was officially opened in January 2003, with 10 boys
who were placed by the local Children’s Department through court order.
Since then, hundreds of hurting
children have come through our gates.

Since then, hundreds of hurting
children have come through our gates.

Many of the children have been referred by the Children’s Department and are usually involved in a court case of abuse, neglect, or abandonment. Others have come from a police round up of street children or have been directly rescued by our staff from the streets.
We provide the children with a safe, nurturing environment, food, clothing, education, and sometimes medical care. A child starts school when he or she is able. We have our own school, Light and Power Academy. Qualified social workers, teachers and counselors begin the rehabilitation process almost as soon as a child is enrolled. Light and Power Academy is a registered government school located in our "village".
